ILCA UK Chair Blog #186
A short blog this week.
First a big round of applause for the GBR men out at the Senior Worlds in Dun Laoghaire. Much will be said and discussed about the latest trial format (its probably best I keep my opinions to myself – suffice it to say the opinions of the sailors are what really matter and should be listened to) but to have 3 in the Top 10 is an outstanding achievement.
Several other things to highlight.
First the Class is starting to make real progress with rolling out the Womens’ Training programme more nationally. A significant grant has been received via the RYA from Sport England which allows us to subsidise these sessions. Look out for the sessions already open for booking on our events page https://portal.ilca.uk/events at Draycote, Prestwick and Grafham with more to follow. And if you are at a club where you think there would be good demand to host something please get in touch with Christine Burnham women@ilca.uk or Fiona Grayton training@ilca.uk
Second, we are rapidly approaching the Autumn National Opens. The first (NO4) at East Lothian is two and a half weeks away. If you are going, please enter as soon as possible if you haven’t already – it makes it very hard planning things like rescue resource when we don’t know numbers. If you are thinking you can't really be bothered because it’s a long way, please spare a thought to those who spend so much time and effort making ILCA-UK the strong class it is today…..we are a National Class so we will from time to time hold our events further afield and I’d encourage everyone to do all they can to support these events on the relatively rare occasions we go on tour. Bear in mind also that NO4 counts towards rankings to get into National Training and as things stand will remain on the Youth ladder until 2027 Nationals and on the Senior ladder until NO4 2027 with regards to European and Worlds qualification. I’ve also got it on good authority that East Lothian is a wonderful place to sail so I for one will get some decent 80s playlists on the car stereo and be heading north – Dolly Parton anyone?
Third, having transitioned to Claire as our paid Class Secretary we are now looking to find some extra paid support. Initially the role will be for 10hrs a week at a rate of £12.50 an hour. Applicants will ideally come from outside of ILCA-UKs existing volunteer base, will be motivated, organised and have good IT skills. A keen interest in sailing would be advantageous. If you know anyone who would fit the role, rather like Leo did in the past, please ask them to email their details and a written explanation of their interest to chair@ilca.uk
