Fiona Grayton has the pen of this weeks blog as regional training starts next weekend. Before I hand over to her I’ll just say……please support ILCA-UK. Those new to the class may not know that a huge effort goes in to running training and if it’s not well supported it will at some point be pared back. That would not be in the Class’ long term interests.

“Regional Training – Don’t Wait for Someone Else to Book First!

ILCA UK is running a series of Regional Training weekends across the North, Midlands, East/South East and South/South West throughout the autumn / winter season 26-27, starting on 12–13 September.

Open to ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 sailors of all ages, the programme provides an opportunity to develop your racing and technical skills alongside other sailors from your region, with expert coaching from some of the most experienced ILCA coaches and training at a great selection of venues.

Whether you’re progressing from a junior class, transitioning rigs, looking to improve your results at club, regional or national level, or aiming to become a more regular competitor on the ILCA circuit, Regional Training is designed to support your development.

The flexible pay-as-you-go format means you can pick and choose which weekends work best around your own training and racing calendar. We’d encourage you to book early where possible, as having numbers confirmed in advance helps us plan the coaching team and means we can get more sailors on the water training together. Last season, some East/South East weekends saw as many as 28 sailors training together, creating a fantastic atmosphere and plenty of opportunity to learn from each other as well as the coaches.

We’ve had quite a few messages asking whether training will go ahead, as some of the current numbers are a little lower than we’d hoped.

If you’re keen to attend, don’t wait for everyone else to book first! The more sailors who commit, the more confident we can be about getting the weekend away. We’re not looking to cancel weekends at the first sign of lower numbers, so wherever possible, we’ll run the training even if numbers are a little lower than expected.
