Training For Everyone

A frequent and diverse ILCA training program is in place across the UK. ILCA UK run some very successful open training in a host of locations across the UK, whilst the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation run some world-class training from the comfort of WPNSA.

This season we have an amazing line up of Grand Prix’s. These are local club regattas, counting towards an overall regional series. These are great opportunities to put your training into action! Check out the Events page to find out when these next are.

ILCA UK Winter Training 25/26

ILCA UK are offering many opportunities for winter training 2025/2026

Regional Open Training for ILCA 4, ILCA6 and ILCA 7

Regional open training for ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 rigs will take place in the South/South West, East/South East and North/Midlands regions.

The format will be 6 weekends running between September and February at venues and prices to be confirmed. The dates are currently indicative only and may change, so are not open for booking currently. Depending on numbers, rigs may train together or separately.

ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 training will be open to all ages and entry will be on a per-weekend basis.

There is no selection or qualification process for the regional open training. However, sailors are expected to be regular club racers at a minimum. They should be competent sailing in strong winds and comfortable managing full days afloat in cold/inclement weather.

This is an excellent opportunity to continue to develop sailing skills in your region!

National Training

 We encourage sailors to view the National Training at WPNSA as a series of training weekends and, once eligible, attend as many as possible for continuity of coaching. They will run from October 2025 to March 2026.

National Training is intended to benefit the more experienced ILCA sailor, in the top half of the fleet. Eligibility criteria will be published in due course and sailors are encouraged to attend the ILCA Nationals in August 2025 and the ILCA National Open Events from September 2025 onwards.

The National Training is run by ILCA UK at WPNSA .

Regional Open Training will also be made available over the same 6 month period, which is open to all abilities.
