Updated 2024 UKLA Senior Qualification document
UKLA has published a draft updated 2024 UKLA Senior Qualification document that we intend to use as replacement for the current document in August 2023. It will also replace the UKLA Qualifier Series Notice – February 2023.
The updated document continues to reflect UKLA’s view that sailors who want to represent the UKLA in restricted entry events should plan on competing in at least 4 Qualifiers and that the fact that the Ladder only includes a sailor’s 4 best scores of the 6 included (or 3 best scores if fewer than 5 are included) will often be sufficient to address a sailor’s inability to attend a Qualifier because of illness, injury or other circumstances.
Our intention in updating the policy includes ensuring it is “timeless” and making clear that decisions on the award of any Discretionary Points are within the exclusive jurisdiction of the UKLA and not within the jurisdiction of any Protest Committee or other authority.
British Sailing Team or British Sailing Squad members are an important part of the UKLA and we continue to support them. We also expect them to attend Qualifiers where practicable. Where their attendance at a Qualifier is inconsistent with their planned sailing programme, they may request Discretionary Points. Any request relying on this criterion must be supported by a written explanation supporting the request from the relevant team or squad management.
The updated document also clarifies that upcoming Restricted Entry Events will in general use a ranking based on the 6 most recent Qualifiers.
If you would like to provide feedback on this draft policy please do here so by 14th August 2023.
(Please note than Ladders may not yet to up-to-date and we that intend to publish a list of requests for Discretionary points for recent Qualifiers in August.)
